“Take rest. A field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.” ~ Ovid
Happy Labor Day! Labor Day is meant to be a celebration of the working people and all they have done to help our country thrive. Whether you work out in the world or your home, Labor Day celebrates all the hard work you do throughout the year. It’s a day of “guilt-free” rest, a chance to take a step back and relax.
In a fast-paced world, relaxing can undoubtedly be a challenge for many. Push yourself to meet this challenge. Spend the day relaxing. Take time to enjoy your family, relax, or celebrate with friends. If you struggle with putting tasks before relationships, then force yourself to let the jobs go. Your world will not fall apart if you take a day off. Relationships, in contrast, will fall apart without nourishing them with your time and attention. Give them your time and attention.
Most days are filled with endless demands on your time. Learn to slow things down. Don’t allow the pressures to do; get in the way of being. Allow Labor Day to be a vital reminder for you to take time to relax and simply be. Enjoy your loved ones, take in the moment, and be grateful for the little things. Make being, rather than doing, an essential practice in your life.
Challenge: Notice how you go through your day-to-day life. Do you frequently put tasks and work before relationships? Do others complain that you’re always working or unavailable? If so, practice slowing down. Take time to rest. Make it a point to be present in your relationships and notice what happens. Have a very Happy Labor Day!
