Spread the love

“Finding the gift in the smaller things will help you savor the bigger gifts of life.” ~ LMB

The holidays are filled with presents of all shapes and sizes. Some are homemade and personal, while others are store-bought and range from a few dollars to off-the-charts expensive. Gifts, though, come to us at all times throughout the year—beyond the “present” holidays like Hanukkah, Christmas, birthdays, etc. Not all gifts are material, visible, or cost money.

As we go through the holidays, be deliberate about recognizing and being grateful for the intangible gifts of life. Take in those moments of laughter with your family and friends. Be appreciative of the small acts of kindness you are shown throughout the year. Feel blessed for the gift of life—yours and the lives of those you love. Take in the blue skies, sunny days, chirping birds, dogs wagging tails, cats purring, and the attention of family pets. Be thankful for the mistakes you have made and the lessons they have taught you. Tune into the small gifts—often life’s greatest gifts.

Challenge: With this New Year, start a new habit—the habit of gratitude. Look around and notice all the intangibles that life has to give you. The world is filled with countless gifts—learn to recognize the small ones, and you will truly savor the more significant gifts of life.
