I’m tired.
I’m angry.
And I am enraged at the level of condoned violence and killing going on in our nation.
However, I am particularly appalled at you—the leaders of Christian communities.
Countless people turn to you for guidance. They look to you to help them be good human beings—to live as Christ lived. You are their moral compass.
And yet, countless of you continue to tell your congregations and community members to support a leader who governs with abhorrent violence, aggression, retaliation, and hate. He is the antithesis of the teachings of Christ.
And yet, you continue to lead your congregations down a pathway of destruction—for not only them, but for an entire nation.
You are supposed to be the closest to God. You are supposed to remember God’s love for ALL of His children—not just the light-skinned ones, or the “legal” ones, or the “straight” ones, or the males, or…
Did you forget that?
Have you now become wiser than God in your teachings? Do you now second-guess His commands?
Does the commandment Thou Shalt Not Kill mean that killing is a sin—unless—you think they’re smuggling drugs, or protesting, or aren’t citizens?
Please explain, because from this vantage point it looks like you are failing your jobs and leading half a nation straight to hell. Because honestly, the God I believe in doesn’t give a damn who told me what—if my actions aren’t loving, kind, and honoring of all His children––even if my priest/pastor told me otherwise–– there’s no place for me next to God in death.
I learned that God is the one who judges. Not me. Not you. And certainly not this man you are telling all of your followers to adore and support.
In case you’ve forgotten, these are the teachings of Christ:
Luke 6:27-36
“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
Read them again.
Far too many people are looking to you as their moral compass.
Shame on every single one of you who is leading your congregations down an inhumane path that is literally harming our entire nation—and world.
Start doing your damn jobs the way God would want you to.
Lisacrossing this line yourself.
